The "European Basset" Trend

This has become an advertising tactic for many breeders trying to sell their dogs in the USA. You will commonly see "100% Euro Basset Hound Puppies" for sale all over the internet. People have become obsessed with the percent of european blood in their new puppy. Sometimes, these same people haven't done any research on pedigrees and really don't understand anything beyond, lots of skin and long ears. There is SO much more to a Basset Hound than that. I have seen 100% euros with terrible health and structure. There has to be a balance. Sure, that overdone droopy puppy is appealing to everyone, but can it walk without literally dragging on the ground and being crippled by stepping on its ears? Does that extreme extra skin cause hot spots, yeast infections, entropions, cherry eye, and vision loss? The answer is yes. So be aware of what you are buying. Study the AKC Basset Hound Standard and pictures of various successful show dogs. Also visit the Basset Hound Club of America Illustrated Standard. These are helpful tools when searching for your perfect puppy. Obviously I love the european bloodlines, as I have imported multiple dogs. But I just want to help you understand that percent Euro is just a number, don't become blind by the euro trend. If you do your homework, you will end up with a healthy, beautiful Basset Hound whether it is 100% euro or not.

Thank you for considering a Maple Street Basset. I am expecting a litter the end of July 2019. I just wanted to explain how I place my puppies.

First of all, I don't have very many litters so I am very selective where my puppies are placed. I don't keep a paid waiting list or sell all the puppies the second they are born. I have tried that in the past and it didn't work for me. I produce litters for bettering the breed. I want healthy and structurally sound puppies. I want the highest quality puppies in show homes and to be bred to promote gorgeous hounds. The remaining puppies are also beautiful, but may not be as close to the AKC Basset Hound standard so they make perfect pets.

So without a waiting list, how do YOU get a puppy? Its actually quite simple. I need you to keep in contact with me even before there are puppies. This shows me that you will keep me informed and be a great potential home.
